These Ropy Soaps look fantastic.
Just hang them up and say goodbye to soggy soap trays forever!
| |
The centre of each soap is actually a piece of loofah. This gives it super scrubbing power and creates lots of foam and bubbles, too!
The Ropy Soaps are made with fruity glycerin soaps which not only smell good enough to eat, they also add to the sliced fruit effect!
| |
If you want to make a Ropy Soap, start by carefully cutting off a section of loofah.
You can get loofahs from most chemists, quite cheaply.
Next, thread a piece of coloured ribbon or cord through the piece of loofah.
Tie a knot at the top so that you can hang it up when it's finished.
| |
Place the piece of loofah in the centre of a square piece of cling film, like this.
Then take a cup or mug which is bigger than the slice of loofah.
Push it down to the bottom, taking care to keep it central. Make sure the cord or ribbon is hanging over the edge and then wrap the excess cling film around the outside of the cup or mug.

Carefully chop up some glycerin soap into small chunks, using a blunt knife.
Next, you need to melt the soap.
You can use a microwave or a hob for this. If you're using a microwave, pop the chunks of soap into a microwaveable jug and find a wooden spoon to stir it with.
| |
Remember not to boil the soap - you only want to melt it!
Pop it into the microwave for about fifteen seconds at a time. Keep a close eye on it, and stir now and again. It shouldn't take longer than 45 seconds.
Once melted, the soap will be very hot so do be careful when handling it!
If you're using a hob, you'll need a saucepan and wooden spoon to stir with. Again, take care not to boil it!
| |
Carefully pour the liquid soap into the cup or mug, over and around the piece of loofah.
If the piece of loofah floats upwards, just poke it down again with the wooden spoon.
Pop the cup or mug into the fridge for an hour or two to allow it to set.
And when it's solid, you should be able to easily pop the Ropy Soap out of the cling film.

And that's it!
They make fantastic inexpensive presents, or they're nice to make for yourself - they're fabulously fun and fruity!
