This top make is a great way of making use of those free CDs you get sent through the post and with magazines.

You won't actually use the disc, but will be using the card sleeve that most of these CDs come in!
Your pyramid pal - for that is what this humble CD sleeve will become - could take on any appearance you fancy.

Here we have a rock star, a tennis player and a canoeist!
If you can't find a CD sleeve, make your own by cutting out two square pieces of card and taping them together along three of the four edges.

All the pyramid pen pals start life with one simple action: squeezing out the CD sleeve to make a pyramid shape.
Before you tape the pyramid together, you need to make two small cuts With a pair of scissors.

You can see these opposite - make them on the left and right edges a few centimetres from the top.
Then stick the open edges together with a couple of pieces of tape.

And it's now time now to paint your pyramid pen pal's body!
You now need to make the rest of your pyramid pen pal's body. We're making the skier here, so we'll start with the skis. These are just cut from paper or card.

You can curl up the ends of the skis by repeatedly running the long edge of a pencil along.
Stick the pyramid on to the skis with glue.

The arms are made from pipe cleaners, but you also need two plastic clothes pegs.

Start by putting the pipe cleaners through the hinges in the pegs.
Secure by wrapping one end of the pipe cleaner under the grip part of the peg.

Then thread the other end of the pipe cleaner through one of the holes in the side of the pyramid. Repeat for the other side.
Add a face to your skier by cutting a mouth from paper or card and sticking it on.

The eyes are made from ping pong balls - just draw on the pupils with permanent marker, then stick on with glue.
All the skier needs now are a couple of ski poles. These are - of course - the pens that he's designed to look after.

Just slip them into the hinge so that they're held in place.
If you fancy having a go at making a golfer, create a caddy for the pens from half a sweet tube, painted and stuck onto his back.

To make a rower, with canoe and oars, cut a canoe shape from card and use pens as oars.

For the rock star, make a couple of speakers out of small boxes painted black and attached with pipe cleaners. You could also make a microphone from a bit of sponge stuck onto a pen!

Or how about the tennis player? He has a tennis racquet made from card and a tennis ball made from a small craft ball.
