Plus here's a great idea to liven up the surroundings for your Fiesta party!
Why not make a model cactus? All you need are two long straight balloons, two long lumpy balloons and enough time to spend applying layers of paper mache!
Blow up the long straight balloons and tie the ends as usual. Take some thin cardboard or card and wrap it in a roll around so that it covers both of the long straight balloons, so creating one long thin shape.
Then apply paper mache all over the surface of each balloon. (Remember: paper mache is just strips of newspaper pasted on with a sticky mixture made of PVA glue and water in equal parts.) You'll need to apply lots of layers, and a good tip is to lay the strips of newspaper on in different directions with each layer that you start.
When the paper mache is dry, trim the ends with scissors. The balloons will start to go down slowly. Wedge the balloon ino a flower pot, packed with newspaper to keep it strong and upright.
Now blow up the two lumpy balloons. Tie a long string around the end of each. Pull the string so that it bends the balloon, and tie it around the last bump. Add paper mache, and leave to dry.
When dry, cut circles in the stem so that you can fit these arms in. Paste more paper mache over the joins.
Add texture to the cactus by adding paper mache in strips, and paint these a different colour.
Complete the scene with flowers made from crepe paper or lizards and other sun-loving reptiles made from modelling clay.
