If you fancy making one of these gruesome goblins to spook your mates or scare your neighbours, then read on!
| |
You'll need an ordinary egg box.
The great thing about an egg box is that it has a built-in hinge for the goblin's mouth and loads of knobbly bits that you can use to make the goblin's eyes.
The first thing to do is to mark across the base of the egg box, as you can see opposite...
| |
...and across the top, like this.
Carefully cut along those lines so that you take off the four corners, two from the lid and two from the base.
| |
To make the goblin's features, you need to make some pulped paper.
It's very simple to do.
Just cut some newspaper into thin strips, in a bowl.
Pour in some water all over the paper, so that it starts to go nice and soggy.
| |
Now give the shredded paper a good stir with a wooden spoon.
It'll take about half an hour for it to break down into pulp, but if you don't fancy all that effort, you could give it a quick stir and then leave it for a couple of days to break down by itself.
Whichever way you choose, it should end up looking like this!
| |
Get a handful of the pulp and squeeze out the excess water.
Then put the squeezed pulp into another bowl. You want to squeeze out enough water so that the pulp doesn't crumble but does stick together nicely.
Once you've squeezed all the pulp and transferred it into another bowl, pour in a good amount of PVA glue, and stir again.
| |
The egg box should now look like this!
Trim the two knobbly offcuts to make the eyes.
Stick them on like this...
| |
Then make a hole in the back of the egg box.
Through this hole you can insert your thumb, so that you can open up the jaw.
The thumb also looks great as a waggling tongue!
Pop a piece of clear wrap in between the jaws of the egg box, so that they don't stick together during the next step.
| |
Now you can add extra detail and build up the shape of the goblin with the pulped paper.
Grab some and mould it on whichever way you like.
The glue that you added earlier will make it stick.
When you've finished moulding and allowed the pulp to dry, you should have something that looks like this.
| |
This one has ears and eyebrows...
...big nostrils...
| |
...and a sticky out bottom lip!
Once fully dried, you can paint the Gruesome Goblin.
The colours you choose are up to you. This one is bright green with a red mouth...
| |
...and has fluorescent paint around his eyes and teeth to make him extra spooky!
