This was my very first series of Finger Tips - but Naomi and the rest of the team were really amazing and made me feel very welcome and at ease with everything. I remember the show being on CITV back when I was still at school and it genuinely is a show which I have always wanted to present, so landing the job really is a dream come true. Nic, the producer of the show, e-mailed me completely out of the blue saying that he had seen me presenting other television programmes and wanted to invite me to attend an audition. I couldn't believe it! There were lots of really good presenters who also auditioned for the job so I was thrilled and surprised when I heard that I had been chosen. I was really nervous at the auditions but I'm always making things so I took along some of my ideas and luckily the Finger Tips team thought they were great. Thankfully working on the show was just as much fun as I had always imagined it would be.
What's your favourite thing you've ever made on the show? Which makes do you like best?
That's a really difficult question to answer... The Gory Gash sticks in my mind and I thought that the Bed Pockets were brilliant. The Spoon Crab Grab was pretty cool too.
What did you like to watch when you were a kid?
I've got an older brother and an older sister so, being the littlest, I didn't always get to choose what we watched in my house... I was always the last to grab the remote control! The Clangers, Paddington Bear, Pigeon Street and The Magic Roundabout were excellent. I also used to watch a show called Finger Mouse, which followed the adventures of a mouse - which was literally a folded piece of paper stuck on a bloke's hand! How things have changed! Being quite a creative person I loved shows like Art Attack.
What was your favourite subject as a kid?
My favourite subjects at school were always English Literature, Drama and Art. My English teacher Mrs Shaw was brilliant. I hated maths and geography... but now that I'm older and I've done a fair bit of travelling I think that I would probably enjoy geography a lot more. Strangely I quite enjoy maths now too!
And what's your favourite item of clothing?
I'm going through a bit of a hat phase at the moment... although they normally make me look like a bit of an idiot! I love nice jeans too.
What’s your favourite meal?
I've just started to really get into cooking - so I'm trying to expand my repertoire of dishes. I love Italian food... just simple, beautifully blended ingredients. I can make some quite tasty seafood pasta dishes... a delicious Thai green chicken curry... and a nice salmon and potato soup which I had when I went to Lapland last year. I really enjoy tasting new food when I go abroad and getting new ideas. Friday night is Indian night in my house... you can't beat a chicken passander.
And your worst meal?
I once ordered a seafood dish when I was in Sicily and when the waiter brought the food to my table I realised that the massive fish still had it's eyes, scales and internal organs in place... it made me feel really sick! I also once ate lobster brain when I was in Formentara... but that didn't taste too bad.
Do you own a cuddly toy?
I've got a polar bear called Pete.
What was the most challenging thing about presenting Finger Tips?
Remembering all my words! We made about 120 different things during the series... and it was all filmed within three weeks. Trying to memorise 120 different scripts was a real challenge!
What was the best thing about working with Naomi?
Naomi was really kind to me and helped me a lot - as I had never presented a show like Finger Tips before. She has become a good friend.
What was the worst thing about working with Naomi?
I would love to be able to reveal some scandalous juicy gossip but sadly there isn't any. Naomi is really lovely and exactly the same on and off screen. Her feet smell quite bad though... when we were filming Laundry Shoot I had to touch her smelly socks... that wasn't nice.
What did you want to be when you were five?
I wanted to be a Diver and a Bank Manager. Then I wanted to be a News Reader!
A great Finger Tips screensaver for your computer.
